A major release of the Windows operating system developed by Microsoft that was released to retail on July 29, 2015.
As a successor to Windows 8.1, it became available to users of Windows 7, Windows 8 and 8.1 as a free upgrade.
It received praise for its return to a familiar desktop interface and improved software, though it faced criticism for mandatory updates and privacy concerns. Unlike previous releases, Windows 10 received ongoing updates at no additional cost, with enterprise users having the option for long-term support.
Support for Windows 10 editions which are not in the Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC), or enrolled in the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program, ended on October 14, 2025.
It was succeeded by Windows 11, which was released on October 5, 2021.
